Arborist Services

Whether you are looking to maintain the trees on your own property or you work for the city, we can help you create and maintain a healthy greenspace that will be the envy of the neighbourhood.

Tree pruning

Our tree pruning services are performed by our highly skilled ISA Certified arborists, so you can rest assured that the work will be done to correct ISA and arboricultural standards.

We provide pruning young tree training for your juvenile trees, so that they establish the correct structure as the tree grows. Our mature tree pruning program is designed to address and mitigate any structural concerns, while also removing deadwood, and providing the adequate clearance required for your property.

Arborist reports

If you have concerns about a tree on your property we can help. Our ISA Certified Arborists®  hold the Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) and can provide comprehensive arborist reports. These reports will include site reviews, tree risk ratings and recommendations. Thanks to our extensive municipal experience, we will also ensure that the arborist report we provide to you meets and exceeds all local municipal requirements. We are also able to assist with development projects including Small-Scale Multi-Unit Housing (SSMUH) requirements in accordance with the Province of British Columbia requirements.

Arborist consultations

Are you building a new house, a shop, pool or septic field? Our certified ISA and TRAQ qualified arborists can provide you with a comprehensive consultation for your upcoming project. These consultations will include requirements such as tree inventory, tree protection recommendations and tree retention or removal recommendations.  We are also proud to provide arborist consultations to municipalities that are looking to create a plan for ongoing city maintenance.

Development reports

Thanks to our extensive experience with municipal tree bylaws throughout Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, we can provide you with a comprehensive development report that can help make navigating your project easier. Our certified ISA Arborists also provide onsite supervision for construction sites to ensure that the trees in the area are being properly protected. We work closely with our civil and development customers to ensure a project goes well when working near protected trees. We are also able to assist with development projects including Small-Scale Multi-Unit Housing (SSMUH) requirements in accordance with the Province of British Columbia requirements.

Tree protection fencing

Before any construction project can begin on your property, tree protection fencing must be installed to help prevent damage to tree trunks, branches, and roots. In most cases, construction permits will not be issued until these protective barriers have been set up, inspected, and approved by a municipal arborist. Our staff are experienced in working with the differing requirements between local municipalities and will build the fencing to the local specifications. We stand behind our installations and guarantee that they will pass municipal inspections.

Tree root management

Tree roots can sometimes become a liability on your property causing damage to infrastructure or creating tripping hazards. We can help you take a proactive approach in theses cases by having the roots pruned and tree root barrier installed while maintaining the health and integrity of the tree.

Trees can also suffer from issues such as compacted soil, girdling roots or poor drainage. Our arborists can help identify these issues and make recommendations to alleviate poor site conditions.

We use multiple tools to achieve these goals. If there are underground utilities within the protected root zone, we can use our AirSpade which uses compressed air to safely remove soil around the roots. Other times we can use our Vermeer Root Cutter to prune roots to a depth of 0.3 – 0.4 metres (14-16 inches).

AirSpade

At times it is necessary to work within the critical root zone (CRZ) of a tree either to install infrastructure, loosen compacted soil or to expose roots that may be causing issues. The use of a compressed air-powered tool (AirSpade) facilitates excavation, soil management and root exposure within the CRZ. Mechanical excavation techniques often damage or remove roots. Whereas air-spading efficiently removes or loosens soil without damaging a tree’s root system.

The AirSpade can be used to help mitigate soil conditions that are unfavorable to a tree’s health, including soil that is overly compacted, poorly drained or anaerobic. Our arborists can help you by recommending a wide range of air-spading applications including air tilling, radial trenching, and vertical mulching. Each of these serve as a method of decompaction, which can bring about considerable health benefits to the tree. Ask our staff for more details.

The AirSpade can also be used to locate underground utilities, especially in areas where it is difficult to get access with a HydroVac.

Vermeer Mini-Skid

Our Mini-Skid Steer can access limited spaces and measures only 0.9 metres (36 inches) wide. With this machine we can access many spaces that larger equipment cannot reach and can complete a large variety of jobs with this machine such as trenching, root pruning, moving materials and flail mowing to name a few.

Tree planting

One of the leading causes of trees suffering and/or dying is typically the wrong tree for the space that they are planted in and how it was installed. Our arborists can help you select the best tree species for your space, and we factor in things such as proximity to infrastructure, sun/shade, drainage, species profile and size of tree at maturity.

If you need to replace a tree that has died or want to add new trees to your property our staff can supply and install them for you to help ensure that they live a long and healthy life.
